Arles, France

Festival in Arles with traditional Provencal garb.

Mmmmm.....French lemonade.

Driving in Provence.

The 12th C. Cathedral in St. Gilles.

We got lucky and found ourselves in Arles during a festival.  Here we are sitting in the incredible Roman Amphitheater waiting the start of a Camargue bullfight.  A type of bullfight where the bulls are not killed.  They are simply psychologically tortured and teased for 15 minutes at a time.  The goal is to grab a tassel strung between the bulls horns.  Brave men from throughout the area compete for points in order to be dubbed champion.  Awards are given for points, bravery, style etc.

The horde of competitors each take turns trying to extract the various tassels and horn accoutrements.  They dive headlong over the boards to avoid impalement.
